Somewhere around 35 years ago, my wife and I went to Picano's several times trying to reproduce their veal Mama Assunta recipe.Veal with artichoke hearts, mushrooms, and a lemon butter sauce.After several attempts, we finally asked to speak to the chef, and he literally wrote down the recipe on the back of a menu, which I found and photographed to show the owner at Picano's tonight. Returning after 35 years, it did not disappoint. I'd forgotten what an all-inclusive Italian restaurant it was. Daniela, our excellent server, walked us through the generous Italian menu. I got a grilled...Polenta that I paired with some hot banana peppers sautéed in olive oil, which I'd never seen on a restaurant menu. I used to get them from the Serbian grandmothers in my old neighborhood. The combination was delicious. The salad that accompanied my veal was served on a cold plate, crisp, with just the right mix of vinegar and oil.Of course, they offer a free side of pasta, which was a mostaccioli with some delicious bolognese sauce.The veal was tender, and the sauce was velvety. I know the secret of how to make it, which I have reproduced at home, but they have kept true to the recipe for 41 years n

Overall, great food and service. But, manager made it a bad experience. Hope they get better management before returning.

Love ♥️ Picano’s is a favorite for good reason. A family owned business with great service and delicious food. The house salad, rolls and cannellini bean starter are all so good. I love the spicy rigatoni mini meatball special, my absolute fave. My Husband loves Chicken Roberto. Tonight we had the pizza. 🍕 Whoa! We have never had the pizza and it was so good. So garlicky and cheesy. We learned tonight that Picano’s was built on their Pizza. Thanks Aldo! Highly recommend

When I come to Troy for business I try to always stop at Picanos . Friendly old word Italian. Love the food and atmosphere. When thr owner is in the house always will greet me and show his sincere appreciation for my patronage! Old school service from everyone, hostess, bartender and wait staff. Also love when you order a glass of wine they don't measure it out if a small carafe! They give a healthy pour. Bravo to Picanos!

We had the absolute Best experience EVER! We had a Party for my daughters college graduation 35 of us! From the moment we walked in we were greeted with such gracious hospitality from Annetta she is the banquet Mgr -what a SUPERSTAR as well as her wait staff! Excellent service! What a valuable asset she is! Warm friendly and an amazing Host! Everything went perfectly! The food was outstanding 100 stars The Service was also 100 stars!!! We are so very glad we made the decision to book our party there and hope this helps anyone who would like to book a family event-you will be treated like family! We will be visiting again And again! Thank you very much Annette & Staff for making my family celebration so spectacular!!
